RECYCLED POLYESTER EXPLAINED
From PET waste
to recycled teamwear.
Recycled polyester starts with PET: the same polymer commonly used in beverage bottles. Through mechanical recycling, this material can be transformed into textile-grade yarn for performance apparel, polos, bodywarmers and event garments.
It is not impact-free. But it helps reduce reliance on virgin polyester by keeping existing PET material in use for longer.
1. Material recovery
Post-consumer PET bottles are collected, sorted and separated from other plastics, labels, caps and contaminants.
2. Cleaning and flake production
The PET is washed, decontaminated and shredded into flakes. These flakes become the recycled raw material feedstock.
3. Pelletizing and extrusion
PET flakes may be converted into pellets, then melted and extruded through spinnerets to create recycled polyester filaments.
4. Yarn and fabric formation
Filaments are cooled, stretched, texturized and spun into yarn. The yarn is then knitted or woven into fabric depending on the garment type.
5. Garment production
Fabrics are dyed, cut and sewn into apparel. Depending on the project, garments can then be branded for company events, trade fairs and team activations.
Standards and traceability
Selected products may use recycled polyester yarns aligned with frameworks such as the Global Recycled Standard, depending on supplier and product availability.
Retrieveee continues working toward better traceability, improved supplier transparency and, long term, greater use of European waste streams and European production where possible.
Frequently asked questions
What materials and certifications do Retrieveee garments use?
Retrieveee prioritizes garments made with recycled polyester, including products produced from post-consumer PET waste streams.
Selected garments may incorporate recycled polyester yarns aligned with internationally recognized recycled material frameworks such as the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), depending on supplier and product availability.
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) supports recycled content verification, supply-chain traceability, responsible processing practices, chemical restrictions, and social and environmental criteria.
Product-specific material information can be provided during the quotation process.
How can plastic bottles become recycled polyester T-shirts?
Post-consumer PET bottles are collected, sorted, cleaned and processed into flakes or pellets.
These flakes or pellets are melted and extruded into recycled polyester fibres. The fibres are then spun into yarn, knitted or woven into fabric, dyed, cut and sewn into garments.
In simple terms: PET bottle waste can become recycled polyester yarn, and recycled polyester yarn can become performance apparel such as T-shirts, polos, shorts and bodywarmers.
Are Retrieveee garments made in Europe?
Retrieveee’s long-term ambition is to increasingly prioritize European collection, European waste streams and European production where commercially and operationally possible.
Today, availability depends on supplier networks, product category, certification coverage, minimum order quantities and production capacity.
The direction is clear: we want to keep improving traceability, shorten supply chains where possible and support a more regional circular textile model over time.
How is the estimated impact calculated?
Retrieveee estimates impact by multiplying the number of participants by the estimated recycled bottle equivalent of the selected garments.
For example: 50 participants wearing T-shirts with an estimated 9 bottles per T-shirt equals 450 estimated bottles repurposed into team apparel.
These figures are indicative estimates based on supplier product data and should not be treated as certified lifecycle assessment data.
Can garments be customized with our company logo?
Yes. Retrieveee supports company logos, event branding and team identity applications depending on the garment, quantity and design requirements.
The design and ordering process is handled with a real person, not an automated chatbot or difficult design tool.
What is the typical lead time?
Typical project lead times are approximately 2–3 weeks after final approval, depending on garment availability, quantities, customization and logistics.
